Home > > A Journey Begins: Gerone’s Apprenticeship at GA Interiors
Meet Gerone (21), our new apprentice who has just started his journey with us on the Meridian 2 project, working alongside the main contractor, Vistry Group.
Gerone is working towards his Interior Systems Installer qualification. As his second week has passed, we had the chance to sit down and ask him some important questions.
𝗤: 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘂𝘀 𝗮 𝗯𝗶𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆?
A: I have always enjoyed practical, hands on work and seeing the real results of what I do at the end of the day. During the time of me trying to figure out what I really wanted to do with my life I became interested in how buildings and infrastructure are designed and put together, and that made me want to learn a trade where I could develop real skills while earning and gaining experience.
What really inspired me to start an apprenticeship in the construction industry is the opportunity to learn directly from experienced professionals and build a long term career. I like the idea that construction work is varied, physically active, and plays an important role in shaping communities. An apprenticeship feels like the best path for me because I’m motivated to work hard, keep improving, and take pride in being part of projects from start to finish.
𝗤: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗷𝗼𝗯 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗲𝗻𝗷𝗼𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝗼 𝗳𝗮𝗿?
A: So far, the part I have enjoyed most about interior systems installation is seeing how all the different elements come together to transform an empty space into something functional and finished. I like the hands on nature of the work, especially tasks like measuring, setting out, and fitting components, because it requires focus and precision.
I have also really enjoyed learning new skills from experienced colleagues on site. Being part of a team and contributing to real progress each day is very motivating.
𝗤: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻?
A: I would say go for it. A career in construction can be really rewarding if you enjoy practical work and want to learn skills that will stay with you for life. An apprenticeship is a great way to earn while you learn, gain real experience on site, and understand how projects come together from start to finish.
Construction also offers lots of different pathways, so you’re not stuck doing just one thing.
Please join us in wishing Gerone all the best on his journey in construction!
