Project overview
The redevelopment of The Barclay School in Stevenage formed part of the Priority School Buildings Programme 2, funded by the Education and Skills Funding Agency.
The project involved demolishing the existing sixth form and drama block and building a modern, single-storey sixth form building with a new drama studio. The steel-framed structure has brick and SFS cavity external walls. GA Interiors worked for main contractor Thomas Sinden, with works on site from early 2019.
Our scope
GA Interiors’ £500k package covered the partitions, drylining and ceilings that shape the new learning spaces:
- SFS to the external cavity walls
- Drylining, partitions and glazed partitions
- Suspended and MF ceilings
- Insulation, acoustic panels and fire stopping
- Tape and joint, painting and floor screeding
- Cladding and render
Challenges and solutions
- Working on a live school site: the works were planned in close coordination with the school so that construction stayed safe and caused minimal disruption, allowing school operations to continue.
Outcome
The project was completed with minimal disruption, giving students a modern learning environment and improved sixth form and drama facilities.
