Project overview
Chase High School is a mixed, mainstream secondary school at Prittlewell Chase in Westcliff-on-Sea, near Southend, Essex. It educates more than 1,000 students aged 11 to 18 from over 40 countries.
GA Interiors Ltd worked for main contractor Davis Construction (South-East) Ltd on the school’s building works, under separate subcontracts for the drylining and suspended ceiling packages. The ceiling subcontract was placed in February 2020, under a JCT 2016 Design and Build main contract.
Our scope
GA Interiors delivered the interior packages across the ground, first and second floors:
- SFS and drylining
- 600 x 600mm Rockfon Arctic ceiling tiles in an exposed metal grid
- 25mm high performance acoustic insulation laid over the ceilings to the ground and first floors
- Casoline MF ceilings with two layers of 15mm Gyproc FireLine board and 50mm insulation to the under-stair cupboards
- Boarded, taped and jointed finish to the underside of both concrete staircases
- Cem-Rock board to the plant room ceiling, with joints sealed ready for decoration
- Tape and joint and plastering
Challenges and solutions
- Working on a live school site: deliveries were limited to set windows between school drop-off and pick-up times, so materials were booked in advance and unloaded and distributed by our own team.
- Tight ceiling programme: the suspended ceilings were programmed at five days per floor over three floors, with a supervisor on site at all times and a team of six to eight operatives.
Outcome
The packages were completed for Davis Construction and the retention was released at the end of the defects period.
